Fortnite on Nintendo Switch gets boosted resolution, better frame rate

Yes, Fortnite has dinosaurs now, but developer Epic Games also made some other changes. Specifically, Fortnite for Nintendo Switch received an update Tuesday that improves performance “to make better use of the console’s GPU,” Epic said on its website.

According to Epic, Fortnite on Switch has “significantly improved resolution” in both docked and handheld modes “resulting in images that are less blurry, without loss of performance.” Players on Nintendo Switch should also see an improved, more consistent frame rate — “a smoother experience overall,” Epic said.

Previously, Fortnite’s resolution while in handheld mode was 1000 x 650, but it’ll run at 1170 x 660 now. While docked, the game’s resolution has jumped from 1390 x 780 to 1560×880. You can see the slight improvement in the screenshots below, provided by Epic.

Epic also said that Fortnite’s storage footprint will go down with the new update, saving 140 MB of space. And the good news is, you still get the dinosaurs that were added to the game in season 6. You can hunt the dinosaurs and harvest its bones as resources, but you can also tame dinosaurs who will then attack enemy players. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that you can ride them at this time. A bummer!

Fortnite launched on Nintendo Switch in 2018, and it’s always run pretty well. However, we noted in our review at the time that there was an “appreciable loss in sharpness and detail” for players that were moving from a more powerful console or gaming PC to Switch.
