Gambit Esports moves to 2-0 at ESL Pro League Season 14

Gambit Esports is the only unbeaten team left standing in Group D after defeating Team Liquid 2-1 on Thursday in the ESL Pro League Season 14 event.

In other action, FURIA Esports swept Team One and Ninjas in Pyjamas did the same to Entropiq.

Gambit dropped the first map, Inferno, 16-12 to Team Liquid before charging back. It notched a 19-16 overtime win on Vertigo and captured the decisive map, Mirage, 16-12.

Gambit’s Abay “Hobbit” Khasenov of Kazakhstan led all players with 73 kills and posted a plus-16 kills-to-deaths differential. His teammate, Russia’s Dmitry “sh1ro” Sokolov, added 68 kills and a plus-18 differential. American Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski carried Liquid with 67 kills.

After a 16-14 opening win on Mirage, FURIA needed two overtimes to vanquish Team One with a 22-19 victory on Inferno.

Kaike “KSCERATO” Cerato led the all-Brazilian FURIA side with 66 kills and a plus-21 K-D differential, both game highs. Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa of Guatemala had 51 kills for Team One, the only winless team left in Group D.

Ninjas in Pyjamas recorded wins of 16-14 on Dust II and 16-9 on Ancient to take down Entropiq.

Denmark’s Nicolai “device” Reedtz tallied 48 kills with a plus-13 differential for Ninjas, while Nicolas “Plopski” Gonzalez Zamora of Sweden added 46 kills and a plus-15. For Entropiq, Russians Aleksey “NickelBack” Trofimov and Vladislav “Krad” Kravchenko recorded 44 kills apiece.

The 24-team, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive league is broken into four groups for the round-robin opening round. The winner of each group advances to the playoff quarterfinals, while the second- and third-place teams in each group qualify for the playoffs’ Round of 12.

All matches are best-of-three until the playoff final on Sept. 12, which will be best-of-five. The championship team will earn $175,000 from a $750,000 prize pool. The runner-up will receive $60,000.

The first three groups already concluded their round robins. Heroic won Group A, with Team Vitality and ENCE claiming second and third, respectively. In Group B, the top three were OG, forZe and Complexity Gaming. Natus Vincere prevailed in Group C with mousesports and Fnatic emerging for the second and third berths.
