At TGS 2022, Valve hinted that Genshin Impact could be coming to the Steam Deck, filling the void while players wait for the game’s Switch port.
At TGS 2022, Valve subtly hinted that Genshin Impact could be coming to the Steam Deck in the near future. As Genshin Impact players and Nintendo Switch owners are still waiting for a release date for the game’s Nintendo Switch port, Genshin Impact on the Steam Deck could be the handheld console port that players have been waiting for. Though Valve hasn’t announced that Genshin Impact will be supported officially, Valve’s presentation at TGS 2022 all but confirmed that Genshin Impact compatibility is in the works.
Genshin Impact first announced that the game would be coming to Nintendo Switch ahead of the game’s launch in September 2020. Since then, Genshin Impact players have chased HoYoverse for updates on a release date for the Nintendo Switch port. Unfortunately for Genshin Impact fans, the release date for Genshin Impact on Nintendo Switch is still unknown, and few updates have been shared by HoYoverse or Nintendo.
At the end of a presentation for Square Enix’s upcoming RPG Forspoken at TGS 2022, Valve promoted the Steam Deck, its handheld gaming console. One sequence showed a dozen Steam Deck consoles side-by-side, with different games displayed on the Steam Deck screens. Viewers were surprised to see Genshin Impact as one of these games, with the game’s title and several of its characters appearing prominently on a Steam Deck screen. The image was quickly shared in the Steam Deck subreddit:
While this isn’t the news Nintendo Switch players have been waiting for, Genshin Impact support for any handheld console, like the Steam Deck, could be an indication that the Nintendo Switch port is still on its way. The news of Genshin Impact coming to the Steam Deck was well-received by Steam users and Steam Deck owners, with many sharing their excitement and enthusiasm.
Genshin Impact Could Be Coming To Valve’s Steam Deck
For Genshin Impact fans who have been waiting for over two years for the Nintendo Switch port in the hope of enjoying the game on a handheld console, the Steam Deck could serve that purpose. Hopefully, Steam Deck compatibility for Genshin Impact will include cross-platform and cross-save with the game’s other supported platforms, allowing players to save their Genshin Impact progress on the go. Genshin Impact on the Steam Deck could provide players with the same level of portability of a mobile device, while delivering the full gameplay experience of a “portable PC” gaming console.
Though Genshin Impact fans are no closer to knowing when the game will be available on the Nintendo Switch, the news of a potential Steam Deck port is welcomed. Currently, Genshin Impact isn’t available on Steam and can only be downloaded from the HoYoverse website or streamed through GeForce NOW. Some Steam Deck owners have resorted to workarounds to play the popular game on their consoles, including disabling anti-cheat. For Steam users, being able to download Genshin Impact on the platform may be what encourages them to play Genshin Impact for the first time.
