Ghostrunner Update Adds Wave Mode, Assist Mode to PC and Consoles

A new Ghostrunner update has arrived on PC and consoles, adding the challenging “Wave Mode” and making gameplay a bit easier with “Assist Mode” in this high-speed cyberpunk first-person shooter.

First launched late last yearGhostrunner is a cyberpunk game that’s all about embracing your inner Lightning McQueen and going fast as heck. Players must dive into Dharma Tower — a massive building nestled within a dystopian cyberpunk city — and work their way through hundreds of enemies in a quest to take down the oppressive Mara the Keymaster. Things are about to get a whole lot spicier with a brand-new update that also happens to make the game a bit easier for players with slower reflexes.

What’s New in Today’s Ghostrunner Update?

There are three major additions in today’s Ghostrunner update according to a press release, the first of which is a brand new way to play the game called “Wave Mode.”

Wave Mode brings a little more roguelite flavor to the game with deadly, one-hit kill enemies. This game mode has a fair amount of randomization in it through its use of procedurally generated enemies and formations. Complete all 20 waves and you’ll unlock an exclusive new sword (and have some bragging rights, too). Unfortunately, Asian players on Nintendo Switch and PS4 will have to wait until later in September to get access to this game mode.

If you’re not too great with Ghostrunner’s high-speed gameplay, you’ll probably enjoy the new “Assist Mode” instead. Assist Mode provides three toggleable options that will make gameplay a fair amount easier: you can have shorter cooldowns on abilities, slower gameplay, and an extra life.

Finally, today’s Ghostrunner update features the launch of the Neon Pack. This cosmetic DLC gives players access to four sets of gloves and katanas, letting you add just a bit more style to your runs in Dharma Tower; the Neon Pack will be slightly delayed on Nintendo Switch and is expected in the coming weeks. All of these new goodies will also be included in Jack’s Bundle, a collection launching today that includes all cosmetics in one convenient bundle. A separate “Summer Collection” bundle will launch next week on September 7, 2021.

Going forward, players can look forward to the Ghostrunner PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions launching on September 28, 2021. If you haven’t yet jumped into this great cyberpunk game, you can buy Ghostrunner for PC and consoles via its official website starting at $29.99 or your regional equivalent.
