Shortly after the classic game is confirmed for the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack, GoldenEye 007 is announced for Xbox Game Pass.
The classic Nintendo 64 game GoldenEye 007 is coming to Xbox Game Pass, and it’s doing so with some major enhancements that should sweeten the pot for Xbox gamers. A GoldenEye 007 remaster or re-release has been rumored for years now, but has been held back due to the game’s complicated licensing issues. However, it’s finally been announced that GoldenEye 007 is coming to modern gaming platforms, and it will be available to play through Xbox Game Pass on day one.
Evidence of the GoldenEye 007 re-release has been steadily leaking online for years now. Most recently, GoldenEye 007 achievements appeared online, which was the strongest evidence yet that the game existed. Now that it’s been confirmed, fans have a better idea of what to expect from the project.
GoldenEye 007 currently lacks a release date, but it’s been confirmed that the game will have achievement support, 4K resolution, and an improved frame rate. What has not been confirmed at this time is if GoldenEye 007 will have online multiplayer when it comes to Xbox Game Pass. The official blog post announcing the game makes no mention of online multiplayer, so it seems like those hoping to play GoldenEye 007 online may be missing out.
While it’s unclear if the Xbox Game Pass version of GoldenEye 007 will have online multiplayer, we do know that it will be supported when it comes to the Switch Online Expansion Pack version of the game. It was confirmed during the latest Nintendo Direct that GoldenEye 007 is coming to the Switch Online Expansion Pack, and like other games available through that service, it will let players set up online matches with their friends. There will be no online matchmaking for multiplayer, unfortunately.
This may be disappointing news for some fans, but others will be happy to play GoldenEye 007 split-screen multiplayer on a modern console. Pricing and specific release date information remain elusive for the Xbox version of the game, but we do know that those that own the Rare Replay collection will be able to get the game completely free of charge, with no need to even be signed up for Xbox Game Pass. This is a nice bonus, and it goes a long way in making Rare Replay a more comprehensive collection of Rare’s library.
GoldenEye 007 is available now for Nintendo 64, and is coming to Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
