‘Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition’ has been seen on a video game rating website in South Korea, giving some truth to the rumours that Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City, and San Andreas may all be re-released this year on next-gen consoles.
Rockstar Games, the publishers of the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption franchises, announced earlier this month that the release of the Grand Theft Auto V remaster on next-generation consoles would be postponed until next March, with the developer perhaps focusing their attention on the release of the Definitive Trilogy.
GTA V has already been remastered once, with the developer adding enhanced graphics and first-person views for its 2014 Xbox One and Playstation 4 release.
But many fans have been incensed at Rockstar’s decision to remaster the third largest selling video game in the world, with some claiming that there are only minimal changes to the game that wouldn’t warrant them buying another copy.
Meanwhile, it appears Rockstar have muted all talk and mentions of Grand Theft Auto VI on YouTube, after many fans have been getting impatient over when the new game will be coming out.
Unfortunately for GTA fans, this could be a very long time away, and while many have now overplayed GTA V, many fans are starting to get excited about the news that a remaster of the classic PlayStation 2 games could be released later this year.
Kotaku reported in August that the classic three games, GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas, would be making a re-appearance on next-generation consoles and the Nintendo Switch, and it now seems those games could be coming earlier than we first thought after they were spotted by Resetera user Uzupedro on the South Korean Game Rating and Administration Committee website.
An exact release date is yet to be confirmed, but Kotaku are now reporting that these games could be released as early as next month, saying:
“Originally, the plan was to release them in October or early November. But Kotaku has heard from sources that the plan has shifted once again, and now Rockstar plans to release the trilogy in November.
It’s also interesting to note that GTA III will celebrate its 20th anniversary on October 22, and Rockstar has previously teased that they would be sharing some “fun surprises” to celebrate the milestone.
For most GTA fans, the prospect of jumping back into the classic games as Tommy Vercetti and Carl ‘CJ’ Johnson may be an enticing way to make the wait for GTA VI go a little faster. Stay tuned to GIVEMESPORT’s gaming pages for more updates on upcoming Grand Theft Auto releases.
