Fortnite is still going strong, consistently holding a spot in the online sphere as one of the top 3 battle royale games, and the European esports team Guild Esports just signed on their newest member, two-time EU Fortnite champion JannisZ.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with the EU Fortnite Community, Jannis Matwin otherwise known as JannisZ, is a 15-year-old esports player. Residing in Germany, Jannis has rightfully placed himself as one of the top EU players in the community. Before joining Guild, Jannis played for Wave Esports, a team founded in Austria and sponsored by Logitech, after 3 years of tenure at Wave, Guild had decided to pick Jannis up as a player and sign him onto their esports team. Those who might not know Jannis as an esports player might recognize him from his YouTube channel where he uploads Fortnite montages for other viewers to see he prowess in the game. He also streams frequently on his Twitch channel where you can watch Jannis play Fortnite with other players from his team.
Guild Esports might not be a name that many recognize, and for good reason, as Guild Esports was started back in June 2020 and co-owned by professional English Soccer/Football player David Beckham. Even as a fairly new esports group, Guild’s Plan is to focus on building the most prominent team in the EU by not only harnessing the power of social media marketing but also focusing on building a portfolio that can back up their claims, hoping to earn their spot with the best of the best. With their signing of JannisZ, it’s no surprise that their intentions are made perfectly clear.
So, what does this mean for Guild Wsports? What’s their goal in the grand scheme of things? The truth of this matter lies within the players that Guild has carefully picked and placed into their Fortnite team. With Jannis signing onto Guild, this adds another name to their “Fortnite God Squad” a team of some of Europe’s most skilled Fortnite players. The team currently consists of Tai ‘TaySon’ Starčič, Nikolaj ‘Flikk” Frøslev, Henrik “Hen” Mclean and Anas “Anas” El-Abd, and now Jannis “JannisZ” Matwin. With such a star-studded team such as this one, it’s no surprise that Guild Esports has become a force to be reckoned with in the EU Fortnite community.
In response to the Guild Esports signing, JannisZ had this to say in a press release: “I’ve achieved a lot in Fortnite – but it was a real highlight to win the recent FNCS trios with Hen. I’ve gotten to know the Guild squad well, through tournaments and the Lockdown Ladder. Joining the organization and playing alongside some of the best players in the world was an amazing opportunity to take the next step in my career. I’m looking forward to doing my part to bring Guild Esports even more success”
