Update (7/29/21 – 6:27pm PT) – Jarrard has confirmed that the Halo Infinite technical preview is “SLOWLY rolling out now.”
“Ok, I can confirm the #HaloInfinite technical preview is SLOWLY rolling out now,” Jarrard wrote on Twitter. “Waypoint messages are going to take a bit and the site is definitely getting slammed. The build is available in the Xbox Insider Hub (console) and Steam (PC) for Halo Insiders who are invited.”
Jarrard also notes that players who run into an issue installing from the Xbox Insider Hub and it says “Update Required” and you are being told “no update is available”, just try to re-launch the Insider hub or “hard” reboot your console and try again.
He also says that players should expect a dedicated server error on you first few games, just keep at it and it “should sort itself out!”
Update (7/29/21 – 3:49pm PT) – Jarrard has said on Twitter that the team is “proceeding with a full global server re-deploy as part of this fix, which will take time. As soon as we get USWest online we can start prelim testing there in parallel. Team is working nonstop, as fast as they can. Our “afternoon” PT target is pushing into “evening.”As fans eagerly await the first Halo Infinite Tech Preview, 343 Industries is asking for patience as it prepares for fans to finally play the long-awaited next entry in the Halo franchise.”
Original story follows.
The Halo Infinite Tech Preview is scheduled to start today, July 29, and run through the weekend, but 343 has yet to give an exact start time. Halo community director Brian Jarrard took to Twitter to share an update on the Tech Preview’s status, saying that this is a “technical test at a scale unlike anything we’ve done to date.”
“As we are all eager and increasingly impatient, just a friendly PSA this is a technical test at a scale unlike anything we’ve done to date,” Jarrard said. “Driven by production. Not a game launch. Things are proceeding but there are many steps to navigate.”
Jarrard also warned that that Halo Waypoint’s load is also dramatically increasing, and that even though the team has been able to work out additional deployments, it’ll “likely be bumpy when everyone slams the site for their messages, please bear with us.”
He also wants to set expectations for those waiting to get in, noting that this is a technical preview, not an official launch, meaning there will “be hiccups” as they get as many people in as they can.
In a message to the international Halo community, Jarrad also says that these test times are designed around the team’s Pacific Time Zone as the team is based there and it’s “the reality of our business and this isn’t a game launch.”
It’s been a roughly six-year journey for 343 Industries in their quest to make the best Halo Infinite it can, and it’s important for everyone to remember that “folks are working incredibly hard, hitting new issues and overcoming then, and moving through the process. This is exactly why we flight. Thank you for your support and understanding!”
While today’s launch still has no start time, the rest of the weekend has a pretty set schedule, barring any other setbacks. The full schedule is as follows;
- Thursday, July 29: Tech preview is officially live! Go wild, Spartans.
- Friday, July 30 Scheduled Play Times: 12-2 PM PT, 7-9 PM PT

- Sunday, August 1 Scheduled Play Times: 12-2 PM PT, 7-9 PM PT
- Monday, August 2: Tech preview closes at 10 AM PT
While there will be more Tech Previews as we get closer to Halo Infinite’s Holiday 2021 release date, this specific one will give fans a glimpse of Bot Slayer, Social Arena, Weapon Drills, Battle Pass and Menu UI, and more.
