The upcoming “Halo” TV series has eyes set on a new showrunner, with David Wiener in talks for the role. Wiener, best known for work on Fear the Walking Dead and Brave New World, reportedly looks to head up the show should a second season enter production. The news comes via Halo executive producer and Amblin Television co-president, Justin Falvey, speaking during a Television Critics Association (TCA) panel, as reported by Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.
Microsoft’s hit sci-fi video game series takes on a new form on March 24, with Paramount Plus set to debut the Halo TV show, following eight years in development. With former showrunner Kyle Killen departing in 2018 and Steven Kane parting with the project following its inaugural season, Wiener next looks poised to assume the role. “Our intention is to produce several seasons of the show,” stated Falvey.
The Halo TV series was first discussed alongside the announcement of Microsoft’s Xbox One console in 2013, with Steven Spielberg attached to the project. Before settling on Otto Bathurst, the show underwent regular reshuffles and moved from Showtime to Paramount Plus. The new Halo TV show trailer debuted on Sunday alongside the AFC Championship football game, providing an extended look at Pablo Schreiber’s Master Chief and a reworked take on his AI companion Cortana, voiced by Jen Taylor.
Halo debuts on March 24, 2022, via Paramount Plus in the U.S. With Paramount Plus exclusive to America, we’re yet to learn more about plans for overseas distribution.
