Happy New Year from the Push Square Team

As one unusual year comes to a close, another begins. The world is a strange place at the moment, and it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting back to normality any time soon. One more year we are happy to see the back of, it seems. At least we were kept occupied by PlayStation 5. Sony is selling the console as quickly as it can produce units, making it the fastest-selling system in the platform holder’s history. It’s still difficult to buy one, but those who manage it seem happy.

Fuelling that demand is a slate of released PS5 exclusives, including Returnal and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart from this year. Things slowed down a little in the second half of the year, but we were still treated to Director’s Cut versions of Ghost of Tsushima and Death Stranding. Perfect entry points for anyone who missed out on the PS4 versions. With third-party blockbusters like Resident Evil Village and Hitman 3 on top, there was plenty to play throughout 2021.

With such a strong lineup of games to look back on, it’s incredible to think that 2022 could put it to shame. Next year is going in all guns blazing. In the first few months alone, we have Elden Ring, Horizon Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7, and Forspoken to look forward to. God of War Ragnarok, Saints Row, Hogwarts Legacy, and possibly even Final Fantasy XVI are then expected in the second half of the year. It’s an embarrassment of riches — any one of these titles could have been in contention for Game of the Year in 2021. It’s safe to say PlayStation will keep us entertained this year, and that’s just the stuff already announced.

As for us, we’re committed to doing what we do best: delivering the very best coverage of PS5, PS4 news, reviews, and opinions. We’ve even got a new platform to add to that lineup this year: the next-gen PSVR headset. We can’t wait to get stuck in with all these blockbuster games releasing in the next couple of months. Our coverage will be back to normal next week, but until then, we wish you a Happy New Year!
