How “Gaming for Good” works to help the community

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Bar_Botics a local bar in Terre Haute, has created a new program with a goal in mind of giving back to others as well as their community.

Bar-Botics is an arcade bar that will now allow non-profits to sign up for a fundraising night at the bar in which part of the proceeds will be given to that charity. Their inaugural involved cutting hair to donate to children battling hair loss.

“These are kids, children with hair loss gives free wigs to children all the way up until they turn 21 who have lost their hair because of cancer or because of severe burns or other illnesses that have caused them to lose their hair,” said Bar_Botics co-owner Ethan Page.

The bar partnered with Serendipity Salon for this event. Cheryl Salyers, owner of the salon says it’s a small way to make a big difference.

“I love doing things in the community. I love helping kids that are in need,” said Salyers. “It’s very devastating in general but a child, just really like to make people feel good.”

Page also decided to give back by chopping off 10 inches of his own hair which he’s been growing out since last year.

“Me and the other owner Alec (Thompson), we love Bar_Botics and we love games and fun but we also love people too,” said Page. “We really want to be able to give back and do something for others you know very much outside of our business.”

Page adds that they will continue this “Gaming for Good” program as long as non-profits need the help but will limit the program to once a week.
