With the launch of Season of The Lost in Destiny 2 this past week, crossplay is here, and that means you can play the game on Stadia and play with all of your friends on different platforms. Including PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S.
This is a huge move for the game. Because it means you can have cross platform clans. And it opens up the ability for matchmaking and doing content. There’s now less of a chance that you’ll have to skip certain content each week because you just can’t find enough people. This likely impacts Stadia the most though. Because Stadia has without a doubt had the smallest player pool in Destiny 2 since Stadia’s launch, and crossplay opens up the player pool to Destiny 2’s entire community.
While crossplay in Destiny 2 should just work, even on Stadia, there are some things you will need to do first. And this guide is here to walk you through the things you’ll need to accomplish in order to enjoy this improvement that Bungie has made to the game. Eyes up guardian.
How to use crossplay in Destiny 2 on Stadia
If you login to Destiny 2 on Stadia the only friends you’ll probably see are those who are in your Stadia friends list. So to get started with using crossplay, you’ll have to start with importing your friends.
Head to the bungie.net website and sign in
To begin this process, go to the Bungie.net website and login to your Bungie account. You’ll be asked to select which platform you’re logging in with. Select Stadia and once the page loads up, move on.
Click on the friends icon
Next, you’ll need to click on the friends icon in the top right corner. It will be just to the right of the Globe icon which lets you pick your display language for the site.
Click on the import friends option
Here, you’re going to want to authorize or reauthorize the link between your Bungie and other accounts. I.E. PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, and Steam.
Click on the platform where you want to play with friends
To play with friends on Stadia they will need to show up in your friends list in Destiny 2. So you’ll need to send Bungie friend requests to any friend through the platform that they play on. And once they accept it, you will be able to see them in your friends list whenever you go to the roster screen in Destiny 2. Then you can party up and do content together at any point as long as you’re both online.
Click on “send request” for the friends you want to play with
Lastly, you’ll just need to select which friends you want to send invites out to. Click on the send request button to any friend you want to play with using the crossplay feature. Then just wait for them to accept it.
Accepting friend invites in Destiny 2
Manage your Bungie friend requests
If someone has sent you a request, you can accept it while you’re in the game. Simply open up the Director menu and then head to the Roster tab. There, you’ll see a little envelope icon that’s labeled as Manage Friend Requests.
Click on that and if any requests are in there pending, you can accept the friend invite and then play together.
How to send friend requests in-game
Send a Bungie friend request in-game
Additionally, you can also send out Bungie friend requests from within Destiny 2. You can send requests on PlayStation, PC, and Xbox, but first you’ll need to know the person’s Bungie name. Which will be their in-game name plus the hashtag and whatever four numbers follow. Click to search for that person, then an option till pop up to send that person a request.
You can’t do this from Stadia, oddly enough. There’s simply no option to search for a Bungie name in the menu at this time. So to send a friend request in-game, you’ll have to be logged into Destiny 2 on another platform like PlayStation, Xbox, or Steam.
Play Destiny 2 on Stadia with crossplay
Now that you’ve sent out some friend requests, you’re probably going to want to play with those friends. To do so, simply launch Destiny 2 from the Stadia app on your device of choice.
When you go to the roster, any friends that are now in your friends list on other platforms will show up on the Roster tab. You can then click on their name plate and if they’re not already in an activity, join their party. Or, you can send them an invite to join your party. Then off into the far reaches of space you go, defending humanity from the threats that lie beyond earth’s borders.
