In Germany, the PlayStation Direct online store has been opened

PlayStation Direct is currently available in Germany, with plans to expand to the United Kingdom and Europe in the near future.

PlayStation’s online store, PlayStation Direct launched in the US two years ago. It is now available in Germany with the promise from PlayStation that it will be rolled out to other European countries, including the UK, in the near future. Before you rush to the site in hope of finally finding that elusive PS5, the console is currently listed as OOS.

Many of you reading this will know how hard it is to get your hands on a PS5. That gets more and more remarkable with each passing day, especially since this week marks the one-year anniversary of the new-gen console’s launch. The ability to buy directly from PlayStation may remedy that somewhat, and that is now a possibility in Germany.

You can buy pretty much anything else PlayStation has to offer through the site, though. That includes the DualSense in all three colors, the 3D Pulse headset in white and midnight black, and a whole bunch of PS5 and PS4 games. Sony says its “goal is to make it easier for PlayStation fans and gift-givers to shop for consoles, games, and accessories.” Perfect timing for German PlayStation fans with the holidays right around the corner.

It almost feels strange to call the PS5 a rare item at this point. PlayStation’s most recent quarterly report revealed more than 13.4 million of them have been sold so far worldwide. There is simply unbelievable demand for the PS5. Combine that with a global semiconductor shortage and scalpers buying up stock, and even 13.4 million PS5s in less than a year isn’t enough.

While you might be able to get some of the items listed above in time for Christmas, it remains unlikely that you’ll be able to get a PS5. Sony continues to do all that it can to get stock out there though. Five jumbo jets-worth of PS5s have arrived at Heathrow over the course of the last couple of weeks. While not specified, we estimated that’s well over 100,000 consoles.
