The PS5 released in India on February 2 and since then there’s been no restocks for the popular console. Indian gamers furious with the lack of communication from Sony have decided to take matters into their own hands by launching a social media campaign on Twitter targeting the company with the hashtag #RestockPS5India.
Now, this isn’t the first time restocks for any Sony console have been a problem in India. The PS4 launch had that console available for all of two weeks before returning after nearly three months. At the time Sony was actually upfront about needing to be compliant with India’s then new BIS rules.
“Sony Doesn’t Seem to Care”
Since then Sony’s management had changed while the Indian gaming community has grown in terms of awareness of social media as well as PS5 availability in other territories, taking to Twitter to voice their concerns over Sony’s apathy.
@PlayStationIN @PlayStation
Sony doesn’t seem to care that they have such a huge market in India. While USA gets constant restocks, we haven’t the slightest clue about what’s happening. Shame. #restockps5india @PS5India— Prithvi Devaiah (@kabaabpalav) March 27, 2021
“When Xbox Is Able to Restock Without Any Hassle, Why Not PlayStation?”
What’s more is, gamers are aware that Microsoft has been able to step its supply of Xbox Series X and S in the country. The Redmond-based company is estimated to be around 10 to 15 percent of the Indian console market. Despite this and a disastrous Xbox One generation it launched both Xbox Series X and S in India at the same time as the rest of the world versus Sony’s three month delay (likely due to not owning its own trademarks in India). Furthermore, Microsoft has had regular restocks, leading some to wonder why Sony can’t do the same.
When Xbox is able to restock without any hassle, why not @PlayStation @PlayStationIN .
We as a gaming fraternity are vexed and decided to make our voices heard. #restockps5india https://t.co/pA1mDgcgmZ

It’s a perplexing state of affairs, particularly when Sony itself recently claimed to be 90 percent of the Indian market. The lack of communication has led some to conjure up their own explanation of the company’s India strategy.
@Sony @PlayStation @PlayStationIN Trying very hard to reverse the apparent 90% market share in India. #RestockPS5India

“Stop Taking Us for Granted”
For its part, Sony does not comment on restocks. Rather it has left that on its retailers, which some aren’t taking too kindly to. After all, stores get their information from Sony and Sony itself has been incorrect. Previously it told major retailers of a March 2021 restock that never happened.
Be in touch with the official dealers they said. Those dealers who change words faster than a chameleon changes it colours. High time we get restocks in India now and stop taking us for granted. @sony_india @PlayStationIN @PlayStation #restockps5india

It’s not just those who weren’t able to buy a PS5 at launch either. Even gamers who managed to get it tweeted in solidarity too.
Being one of the lucky few who managed to get their hands on the launch stock of PS5 in India, I understand how bothersome it is for fellow gamers who weren’t able to. So, @PlayStationIN @PlayStation , please #restockps5india . There have been 0 restocks so far. Listen to fans.

When Can You Buy a PS5 in India?
Last week IGN India reported that there’s a delay in PS5 India restocks. According to those at Sony familiar with the matter who asked not to be identified discussing private information, there has been a delay in the arrival of the next PS5 shipment for the country.
Earlier it was slated for the end of March, but now there’s no specific date communicated. None of the large retailers that stocked the PS5 at launch have been informed of a concrete PS5 restock date just yet aside from a March window that the company is likely to miss.
However there may be hope for an April restock with some retailers claiming that they will get PS5s from Sony then. Until that actually happens though, it’s safe to say that the community will continue vent its ire at Sony just as it does with PS5 scalpers in the country.
