Inkbound Announced for PC – IGN

Shiny Shoe, the San Francisco-based developer responsible for Monster Train, has announced its latest project, Inkbound. The studio’s new game is a colorful strategy/tactics RPG/roguelike. As you can see from the trailer above, it’s also got some action-RPG DNA in it, probably reminding you at first glance of Torchlight.

In a world where anything written in ink can become real, Inkbound takes place in The Atheneum, a place that contains every story ever written. Inkbound focuses on cooperative gameplay and procedurally generated adventure, and it’s an online-only game (though it can be played solo). Shiny Shoe promises continuous game updates, none of which will be locked behind a paywall.

Part of the core gameplay is having direct control over what’s happening. As Shiny Shoe puts it, “Instead of sending units out to do your dirty work, you take direct control of your heroic Binder, upgrading their attacks, equipment, and more in each run.” Furthermore, “Inkbound is not a card game, however, like Monster Train you’re creating and upgrading a build to change the way you engage with each roguelike run,” said Andrew Krausnick, Creative Director at Shiny Shoe.

Inkbound is due to be launched into Early Access on Steam in 2023.
