May 2 is a special day for J. K. Rowling’s saga fans. International Harry Potter Day marks the celebration of the Battle of Hogwarts, the event that put an end to the Second Wizarding War. We tell you in-depth about one of the most relevant events of the series.
Why is International Harry Potter Day celebrated on May 2?
Part of the community celebrates the entire saga on July 31, the day Harry Potter was born into the magical universe. However, May 2 is also a cause for celebration among fans. As we said at the beginning, on a day like today in 1998 the Battle of Hogwarts took place, where Lord Voldemort and the forces of Dumbledore’s Army clashed in a confrontation that would shape forever the future of the story.
The Dark Lord decided to attack the site after discovering Potter’s plans, who had located one of the last Horcruxes. The fight, one of the bloodiest in living memory in the universe, was a decisive victory for the forces of good. Voldemort, Bellatrix, Pius Thicknesse and Scabior, among other antagonistic characters, perished, but not before leaving a trail of victims after the bloody assault of the Death Eaters.
The end of the Second Wizarding War freed Potter from the prophecy that marked him as the only one who could defeat the Dark Lord. After completing the goal that haunted him throughout his childhood and teenage years, the protagonist made a drastic decision with the Elder Wand. In the movie, he broke it into pieces and threw it off a cliff, while in the books he sought to return it “back where it came from.” If you’re a Harry Potter fan, congratulations: today is your day.
This 2022 is relevant for fans of the saga who also like video games. At the end of the year Hogwarts Legacy will debut on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch. In this link you can know its latest gameplay.
