Is FIFA 23 crossplay? Cross platform multiplayer PS4, PS5, Xbox & PC explained

The FIFA 23 early access Ultimate edition and EA Play 10-hour trial come out soon, and some extra good news is that the game supports crossplay and cross platform multiplayer across PS4, PS5, Xbox, and PC.

There’s lots to anticipate with this year’s final instalment of FIFA. EA has revealed the top 100 player ratings, there’s a bunch of new features for player career mode, there’s the debut of the Women’s Super League, and there’s the inclusion of the Qatar world cup.

Everything looks amazing as per usual, but one of the best aspects is the addition of cross platform multiplayer from day one as a first for the series.

Is FIFA 23 crossplay?

FIFA 23 is crossplay and thus supports cross platform multiplayer across PS4, PS5, Xbox, and PC.

It was added to last year’s instalment through tests, but the online feature will be supported at launch on September 27th. It’s fantastic news as the feature isn’t supported in most other sports franchises such as NBA 2K and Madden.

Just so you know, the Nintendo Switch Legacy Edition is not supported at all. In addition, there is also limitations for the online gameplay.

How FIFA 23 cross platform multiplayer works

FIFA 23 crossplay and cross platform multiplayer only works between PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, with PS4 and Xbox One only able to play against each other.

Next-gen cannot play against last/current-gen because of the differences in versions. And, finally, the PC version is the same as what’s offered on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Below is how each mode works:

  • Online Friendlies (1v1 against friends)
  • FUT Play A Friend (1v1 against friends)
  • FUT Online Friendlies (matchmaking only)
  • Online Seasons (matchmaking only)
  • FUT Rivals (matchmaking only)
  • FUT Champions (matchmaking only)
  • FUT Online Draft (matchmaking only)

FUT Transfer Market

Although PS4 and Xbox One cannot compete with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S players, they do share the same FUT Transfer Market along with Google Stadia.

Steam, Epic Games, and Origin have their own Transfer Market pool, and it’s the same for Nintendo Switch users. Check out the EA deep dive for more information including leaderboards.
