Is Madden NFL 23 cross-platform and does it have crossplay?

Madden is one of the biggest video game series in the world, and fans are already wondering if Madden NFL 23 is going to be cross-platform and have crossplay.

The console wars are in full swing once again. Not only are the console wars raging, but the war between current and previous generation consoles is ongoing while Madden is returning to the PC. This means that there are six different platforms of note to consider between PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and Series X/S.

So which platforms is the game available on? Will Madden NFL 23 have cross-platform multiplayer and crossplay? Here’s everything we know.

Is Madden NFL 23 cross-platform?

Madden NFL 23 is cross-platform. At least, it is in the sense that it’s coming out on a number of different platforms.

The game will be launched on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. There will also be a Madden NFL 23 update for ongoing mobile game Madden NFL Mobile. Unfortunately, Madden NFL 23 will not receive a Nintendo Switch release.

Madden Mobile 22.

The game itself will largely be the same across all five platforms it will release on. In the past, some transitions from one console generation to another have been accompanied with stripped-down Madden releases. At this point, those issues have been sorted and players on all traditional gaming platforms should be getting the full Madden experience, though the mobile version will remain different.

Does Madden NFL 23 have crossplay multiplayer?

At this point, it’s safe to say that Madden NFL 23 will not have cross-platform multiplayer or crossplay in any form.

The Madden NFL series has never had crossplay and EA Sports has made no mention on this changing with Madden NFL 23. With the game’s release approaching, it’s unlikely that EA Sports would have kept a change secret for this long when it might otherwise be a selling point for the game.

Madden NFL 23 crossplay is completely nonexistent in any form. Not only are PlayStation, Xbox, and PC players all segregated from one another, it’s also likely that cross-generation play won’t be included either. This means that PlayStation 4 and 5 players, as well as Xbox One and Series X/S players, will all be prevented from playing with each other.

The closest thing to a workaround for this is the All-Madden Edition of the game. The deluxe edition includes “dual entitlement,” which is a fancy way of saying that it gives players access to the game on two console generations. PS5 and Xbox Series X/S owners can have both versions of Madden NFL 23 installed on their consoles, allowing them to play multiplayer across both generations situationally. Unfortunately, this comes with a hefty price markup and is an burden on the console’s hard drive storage.
