NHL 23 early access launches very soon, and the good news is that there is cross platform multiplayer, although crossplay does come with strict limitations for PS4, PS5, and Xbox.
EA has launched two of their biggest annual sports properties with FIFA and Madden, and now their yearly ice hockey release is on the cusp, too. Player ratings have been revealed, and Conor McDavid is the fastest centre for men, meanwhile Mari-Phillip Poulin has the highest overall of any woman in the game.
Both full early access and the EA Play trial launch very soon, and you will be able to play against people on different systems.

Is NHL 23 crossplay?
NHL 23 is crossplay and thus supports cross platform multiplayer for PS4, PS5, and Xbox.
Unfortunately, the game is only available on PlayStation and Xbox as – once again – it is not coming to PC. The inclusion of cross platform gameplay is good news as it’s not available in Madden, but there is crossplay for FIFA.
You can play from October 11th by purchasing the X-Factor edition. Either that or you can subscribe to EA Play for either £3.99 or £19.99 a month to enjoy a 10-hour trial.
While it’s good that fans can compete across PlayStation and Xbox, the unfortunate news is that it’s all quite limited.
How cross platform multiplayer works
Crossplay and cross platform multiplayer for NHL 23 only works between PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, PS4 and Xbox One.
There is no cross-gen gameplay at all, which also means PS4 cannot compete against PS5 users, and same for Xbox One with Series X/S. In addition to the above, there is also no cross-console invitations.
Fans can only enjoy crossplay through matchmaking. Furthermore, it is only possible to compete against players on other systems meaning you cannot play on the same team. So your teammates will be fully made up of either PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Series X/S users pending on your platform of choice.
