Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction is designed as a tactical co-op shooter, with an emphasis on replayable multiplayer missions with “intense, thrilling and unpredictable experiences.” It doesn’t appear to be your typical AAA blockbuster with a lengthy campaign, although I’m sure there is some story to be uncovered as you play through the different containment zones. And because of this, there’s the understandable question as to whether or not it’s a free-to-play game.
Is Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction free-to-play?
Although Rainbow Six Extraction isn’t free-to-play, it is being published as a budget-friendly title. So it doesn’t cost your usual $59.99, or $69.99 on next-gen.
Rather, the Standard Edition version of the game costs just $39.99. The Deluxe Edition, which comes with three bonus cosmetic packs, costs $49.99. It’s also available as part of the Ubisoft+ subscription service, so technically it can be free if you subscribe to that.
Free Trial and Buddy Pass
If you aren’t quite sold on Rainbow Six Extraction at launch, Ubisoft is offering a free Trial Version of the game, which grants you two hours of play time. There’s also the Buddy Pass which allows those who have purchased the game to invite two friends to play with them for up to 14 days. As a multiplayer-centric title, these two options are a great way to encourage friends to join you in containing the alien threat spreading across America.
While Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction isn’t free-to-play, it does seem pretty fairly priced. It may not have your blockbuster cinematic campaign, but it certainly seems to offer plenty of replay value. The goal, it seems, is to challenge squads of players and that’s especially true in the end game content.
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction launches on January 20, 2022. It will be available for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, PC, Stadia and Luna.
