Is Valkyrae really considering quitting Youtube as well as social media? It sure sounds that way. Social media can be a toxic, unforgiving experience. The bigger your audience, the worse it can be. Thanks to a TikTok hate thanks to a mixup, the 100 Thieves co-owner sounds like she could be done with streaming before too long. We aren’t insisting that Valkyrae is quitting Youtube right now though. It’s just something that was discussed on a recent stream.

Valkyrae is an incredibly hard-working streamer. She overtook Pokimane as the most-watched female creator, and is now a co-owner of the massive 100 Thieves org. Her rise has been incredible, but this decision hasn’t been made due to some tragedy or terrible onstream mistake. Valkyrae sounds like she’s considering quitting Youtube, and shifting to the business and investing side of the business. In the stream, she had this to say:

I’ve been thinking about it a lot. I actually really really hate social media. Like the scary parts of it, I really hate that.  I think there’s definitely going to be a time where I pivot out of social media especially. I don’t know when, I don’t know how, but it’s been on my mind. All the trolls and stuff, all the hate and stalkers and creepiness? I just, I don’t want to live this way the rest of my life.

It makes sense though. As a young person in the global eye, she has an incredible online social presence. With millions following her, and almost as many dissecting every move she makes, that has to be unsetting. It sounds like nothing is good enough, and that can be overwhelming.

There’s no telling if this is going to happen anytime soon though. Valkyrae points out that what makes her happy is being safe, and it doesn’t sound like she feels that way right now:

[This life] is so exposing, and people — especially on social media — are always looking for the worst in you. They want to find something bad about you, and actually use it against you. It’s just scary, really scary.

It sounds like she’s already ready for a life of investing and working on the business side. Whether it’s in esports or not, we’ll just have to see. It’s certainly possible, giving her role on 100 Thieves. It’s a shame to see female streamers feel so overwhelmed by people stalking or harassing them over the tiniest things. Whatever Valkyrae does, if she decides that quitting Youtube is the play, we’ll always be appreciative of the fantastic content she put out there.
