The Japan Game Awards has named FromSoftware‘s critically acclaimed Elden Ring as its best game of 2022, with the fantasy RPG picking up the Grand Awards during the event earlier today.
The annual ceremony is helmed by Japan’s Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association and is partially voted for by the public. Elden Ring picked up the Grand Awards in general voting, and the company issued the following statement to mark the achievement:
“This game, which depicts a dark fantasy world with overwhelming volume and quality, has gained tremendous support from many players, with enthusiastic comments such as, ‘Everything about this game is perfect. Itʼs a God-level game.’”

Elden Ring also picked cup an Awards for Excellent alongside a bunch of other major releases, including Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker, Ghostwire: Tokyo, Horizon Forbidden West, Pokemon Legends Arceus and Resident Evil Village.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award was given to Hidetaka Miyazaki, the creator behind the Souls franchise.
Elden Ring was released back in February 2022 for PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One. Back in August, Bandai Namco announced that the game had shipped 16.6 million copies worldwide. You can read our full Elden Ring review here.
