Klonoa: Phantasy Reverie Series could lead to “expanding the IP,” says producer

The success of the upcoming Klonoa remasters could mean that we get more, and could even mean “expanding the IP.”

Klonoa: Phantasy Reverie Series is out on July 7th, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. It comprises remastered versions of Klonoa: Door to Phantomile and Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil. The former debuted on the PlayStation, in 1997; the latter on the PlayStation 2, in 2001.

In an interview with the game journal Lock-On (via VGC), producer Ryo Ishida said:

“With Klonoa, since there’s been large gaps between the release of the games, at this 25th anniversary’s timing, we decided to release this title so people can play the original [games] first.”

Ishida then went on to say that “there might be opportunities to further expand the Klonoa IP and do other remasters of other titles as well.” It depends on the success of these remasters. “The first goal and idea behind the [Phantasy Reverie Series] itself is to spread awareness and reignite the Klonoa IP.”

Moa Ikeuchi, the games’ marketing manager, added:

“The main target is veteran gamers who still love Klonoa. . . . Alongside the memories that our existing fans have, we have also made the game more appealing and [suitable for younger gamers] and also people who haven’t [discovered Klonoa] yet.

“That’s why even though our main target is veteran gamers, we hope that a large variety of game fans will enjoy and experience the charm and appeal of the original Klonoa games.”

Klonoa: Phantasy Reverie Series is out on July 7th. It’s coming to the PlayStations, the Xboxes, Switch, and PC.
