Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews returned to the team’s lineup Saturday against the Florida Panthers after missing three games due to a minor injury. He was considered day to day after suffering the injury against the Ottawa Senators last Saturday. Matthews recorded seven shots on goal in the Leafs 3-2 overtime loss to the Panthers.
Matthews, 24, has 58 goals and 44 assists through 70 games played. He became the franchise leader for goals in a single season and the fourth Maple Leafs player to record 50 goals in a season. The team went 2-1 in his absence this week.
Leafs forward Michael Bunting left Saturday’s game against the Panthers after taking a puck to the face. He is going to “miss some time for sure,” according to Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe.
Toronto is 51-21-7 on the season, sitting at second in the Atlanta Division behind Florida. The Maple Leafs have three games remaining in the regular season after Saturday’s contest.
