After hearing about the release of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition on the horizon, fans are wondering what the changes will be as well as the release.
Mass Effect (ME) first released on 20th November 2007 and has received universal acclaim, more so after releasing sequels 2&3 of the game. The ME series was released and continued on PS, Xbox and PC platforms to date (Including a brief encounter with Wii-U for ME3).
Fans enjoyed the series so much that they asked for a remaster so they could play the series with higher frame rates. Thus, the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition was developed by BioWare. So, when will it release and what are the changes you ask?
When is the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition release date?
- The release date for the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is 14th May 2021.
The news of the Legendary Edition dropped on N7 Day (7th November 2020) by game developers BioWare. They decided to go forward with work on the new edition after fans had requested a remaster continually over the years.
The new edition will show fans a remastered version of the Mass Effect trilogy. This includes Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3. Not only will it combine the trilogy but it is set to feature new content.

What are the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition changes?
The changes to the Mass Effect games via the Legendary Edition include content based on the single-player experience as well as DLC’s from the original Mass Effect trilogy. This includes promotional content such as new packs, armour and weapons which have all been refined for 4k UHD on consoles and PC’s that allow for it.
Consoles this will be available on are as listed (Including forward compatibility for those moving on to new-gen):
- Xbox One
- PlayStation 4
- PC
- Xbox Series X
- PlayStation 5
The developing team has worked on “textures, shaders, models, effects, and technical features” on all 3 ME games. The Legendary Edition will show 60+FPS and drastic work on the environments. Most of the work that will have gone into it would be on the oldest game of the 3, Mass Effect.
Other changes include Combat Tuning which will allow players to control the recticle bloom and weapon movement when using consistent firepower. Fans can customise Shepard with additional styles as well as unified content from previous games.
You will also be able to manage the camera controls better and make use of rebalanced abilities. BioWare have made a breakdown explaining more on the new content, shown their official Mass Effect: Legendary Edition site. Overall the new edition shows better handling than previous versions, meaning expectations are high.
