Madden 23, Saints Row and more

After a painfully slow summer, things are finally picking up for PlayStation. We’re not quite in the holiday season months yet, but we’re getting there.

As August is the final month of summer, it represents a shift in the industry — the start of a new cycle of sports games. And it begins with Madden NFL 23, the latest installment in EA’s annual football game. If you’re a football fan, Madden 23 is probably on your radar. This year’s game introduces FieldSENSE, a new gameplay system specifically for the PS5 (and Xbox Series X|S) version that provides the foundation “for consistent, ultra-realistic gameplay.”

I know, I know, “Madden is the same game every year but with updated rosters.” Maybe so, but I get it every year anyway.

The other blockbuster game coming this month is Saints Row a reboot of Volition and Deep Silver’s open-world action-adventure. Saints Row takes us to Santo Ileso, a vibrant fictional city in the heart of the American Southwest. With crime running rampant and factions fighting for power, you play as a group of friends trying to start their own criminal venture.

Saints Row promises to be the “biggest and best Saints Row playground ever created.” Fan response to the reboot has been mixed so far, but it still remains one of the most anticipated and biggest games releasing on PS5 and PS4 in August.

Another highly anticipated release is Phantasy Star Online 2 (and New Genesis). The free-to-play online action RPG is finally coming to PS4 at the end of the month. For those wondering the difference, New Genesis is a massive update of PSO2. It’s basically an entirely new game with updated graphics, a revamped character creation system and a transformation into an open-field online RPG.
