Marvel’s Midnight Suns Trailer Showcases Magik’s Abilities and Cards

Developer Firaxis Games has released a lengthy gameplay trailer for their next outing, Marvel’s Midnight Suns, dedicated to one of its playable characters, Magik. The trailer reveals her abilities as well as the cards that players will use in turn-based combat to plan out their strategies.

Ilyana Rasputina, also known as Magik, was first spotted in an introduction trailer released by the developer team a few days ago, with the newest gameplay footage centered on her portal ability giving a brief idea of what players should expect from the Siberian character on skirmishes. The gameplay trailer begins with Magik interacting with other playable characters such as Iron Man, Captain America, and Doctor Strange, opening a portal to the villains that they will resist together.

After that, Magik descends on the battlefield with her portal ability, allowing her to knock enemies into these portals to redirect them into surrounding objects. It could be considered a unique way to deal damage, as Magik can also redirect enemies into each other. Magik’s passive ability, called “Relay”, grants her a chance of generating a Limbo Portal card after an enemy is knocked back through a portal. Players can combine it with her Limbo’s Grasp ability, allowing Magik to deal bonus damage to enemies knocked through a portal. Keep in mind that ability stats can vary depending on their level.

The second chapter of the gameplay snippet features a boss fight, in which Magik applies her banish ability to replace an enemy or ally with a drop until the next round. Knocking an enemy into a drop carries the possibility of instantly knocking them out. Although the footage does not provide much to talk about the boss, it was unveiled that Ilyana can use her portal ability even in boss fights. Furthermore, Magik will not only be effective against multiple targets thanks to her skill set, but also she can deal recognizable damage to singular enemies with her dash abilities.

In other Marvel’s Midnight Suns news, Firaxis has already released gameplay trailers for The Hunter and Captain America. The developer team also introduced Spider-man, Ghost Rider, and Iron Man as playable characters that can impact the storyline. Marvel’s Midnight Suns will launch for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, and PC via Steam on December 2.
