Collaborations with gaming can be some of the most interesting things on the planet, and there’s a lot of examples that would confuse the average player when it comes to the topic, for instance, Sonic and Hooters teaming up for the release of Sonic Forces in Japan, having sonic themed memorabilia inside of the restaurant that doesn’t seem like a fitting place for Sonic the Hedgehog. Even something like a whole Travis Scott concert being implemented into Fortnite, however, this example is easier to grasp due to the popularity of the game. Now, a new collaboration has come to advertise an upcoming title. As Halo infinite marches its way onto PC, Xbox Series X, and S this December, fans are wondering how Microsoft is planning on advertising the next entry in the titular FPS series, and Microsoft’s answer is bringing Master Chief to your Waze.

A Lot of people use GPS in their cars, and one of the biggest GPS apps on the market right now is Waze, while it seems like a normal GPS app, the thing that separates Waze from its contenders is that every person using the app has the ability to add hazards and traffic into the app, so that the App is as accurate as possible when others are driving. This means that drivers who are about to leave might miss being stuck in traffic due to another user entering the traffic information before the people running the app have the time to put it in. On top of this, Waze also lets users enter custom voice information that will change the audio being played while giving directions. But the custom voice feature is now being used for something interesting, marketing. As users will notice while opening the app today, that the option to change the guidance voice to either the Banished War Chief Escharum or Master Chief himself, both voices will replace the “turn right in 1 mile” or “keep straight for 10 miles” in Waze, inserting their dialogue and comments about traffic and other hazards on the road. However, just changing the voice isn’t enough for Microsoft, as there are more options, being that users are asked to pick a side, the USNC or the Banished. Player’s who start the experience will be tasked with choosing their Mood, which is the icon that drivers will see if they pass one another on the road, there’s one for Chief, and one for Escharum, they can also choose what their car looks like on their own devices, deciding between a Warthog, or a Ghost. Lastly, the two voice options mentioned earlier.

However, this isn’t the first time that Waze has let players change the voice of their navigator, two other options that are just like the Halo event have happened on Waze Before. One of those events was the “Drive with Sesame Street” event, which let users pick from either Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster, or Elmo as their mood and Navigator. While the second event dubbed “Superhero or Supervillain” let users pick sides between Batman and the Riddler, being able to choose either character as their navigator, as well as change the car on the map to either the Batmobile or the Riddler’s Racer. However, both of these events are over, and users of Waze are unable to pick the moods or voices, and the same will happen to the Halo infinite collaboration as well, so users who want to drive with Master Chief should use it while it’s currently going on.

This will certainly add some flair to drivers who often use the GPS app, and for those who don’t speak English, the app is also going to run the promotion in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese, so users from around the world can enjoy listening to Master Chief complain about traffic and give commentary on cars stopped on the road.
