Microsoft mistakenly sends one lucky customer two Xbox Series X consoles despite the scarcity of the next-generation system.
The Xbox Series X is Microsoft’s newest and most powerful gaming console and has been coveted by players since it was released. Scarcity due to COVID and global shortages have made the systems difficult to acquire, though, and some fans have paid more than double the retail price for the next-gen consoles. The rarity of the Xbox Series X makes Microsoft’s recent mistake of sending two consoles to one customer even more interesting.
The Xbox Series X is a performance machine that runs games smoothly in 4K and stays silent even when operating under intense conditions. Though Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is arguably the best deal in gaming, there are certainly benefits to owning an Xbox console, like quicker load times, more titles, and improved mechanics. Now, one customer has been given two Xbox Series X systems on accident.
Reddit user _DLMurgatroyd_ recently posted a photo to the Xbox subreddit showing a picture of two Series X consoles and an order form from Microsoft. Of course, this mix-up won’t deter other customers from purchasing Xbox consoles. Indeed, Microsoft is even giving away a Pac-Man-themed Xbox to celebrate the release of the fan-favorite title. But the mistake is unfortunate considering the number of players that have been waiting for a long while to get their consoles in the face of so many shipping delays.
The news about the consoles comes after multiple giveaways by Microsoft. Along with the Pac-Man Series S, there was also a Top Gun Maverick console and an IHop collaboration. Indeed, it seems as though the team at Xbox is trying to get their products into the hands of consumers as fast as possible, perhaps to a detriment. The Xbox Series S and Series X might be hard to find, but gamers should be happy to see that Microsoft is trying to get fans their systems as soon as they can.
Hopefully, the scarcity of consoles won’t continue for long. The Xbox platform, after all, is about so much more than the hardware itself. With so many great Xbox exclusive games and resources, like Cloud Gaming, fans should be able to focus on the content instead of the consoles. While the future is uncertain, and other potential additions to the Xbox family of products are unknown, fans can look forward to a larger community of gamers as Microsoft works to increase its playerbase. And as that happens, some fans might find themselves gifted with extra consoles than they actually need.
