Xbox is no longer out on the side of Microsoft, says Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and adds that the gaming division is much more central, built on core cloud tech.
Xbox has been in a rough spot at the start of the last generation of consoles with, Xbox One console, an inferior and more expensive product to Sony’s PlayStation 4. The early days of the last-gen signalled that Xbox have failed to build on the success of Xbox 360, which is still Microsoft’s most successful console in terms of unit sales.
However, the approach changed when Phil Spencer took charge, transforming the philosophy of Microsoft’s gaming division which is now a serious competitor to Sony with more studios than ever and most importantly, more exciting exclusives for Xbox players, which are available day one on Xbox Game Pass service.
Not only that Phil Spencer did that, but the man also convinced Microsoft heads that they need to stay in the gaming business and go all-in on gaming, which they did. Microsoft CEO recently stated that they will strongly support their gaming division and in the most recent interview, he claims that Xbox is no longer out on the side of Microsoft. Instead, Xbox is now a core part of Microsoft, which is music to Xbox fans’ ears.

Nadella said in the latest interview.
Of course, we already knew that the company is strongly behind the Xbox brand. They made their intentions clear with Bethesda and many other acquisitions over the last couple of years. Obsidian, Double Fine, Compulsion Games – there are just some of the studios that decided to join the Xbox Game Studios.
On top of this, there’s Game Pass, a service that keeps adding more and more quality titles on day one, which certainly costs a lot of money but it seems that Microsoft certainly don’t mind doing that.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Xbox but this time around, the possibilities are exciting, unlike several years ago, when Microsoft heads even discussed shutting down the gaming division for good.
