Microsoft is working on 1080p xCloud streams for Xbox Game Pass

Microsoft is reportedly working on its Xbox Game Streaming application for Windows devices. The app will come with access to streaming games via its cloud-based streaming service, Project xCloud. The app will also bring the ability to stream games in 1080p resolution.

WindowsCentral points out that the Xbox cloud games were limited to a maximum of 720p resolution for streaming. The HD resolution, however, is also not up to the mark in terms of user experience. The report points out that the 720p streams look blurry.

The 1080p for xCloud would bring Microsoft’s gaming streaming service closer to Google Stadia’s “free” tier service. The latest update also includes direct console streaming, which is also at 1080p resolution.

The Verge reports that Microsoft is also working on the Xbox remote play feature. It will be available for connecting Xbox consoles. The feature reportedly works similar to Microsoft’s current Console Companion functionality. Users will have the option to wake an Xbox console remotely. They can sign in and play games on-the-go.

The update also brings full touch support. It is likely to help users with Surface or other touchscreen-enabled Windows devices to play Xbox games without needing a controller. According to the report, Microsoft will also bring gyro support. The internal beta shows the feature is already listed but has not gone fully functional so far, added the report.

Microsoft’s continued development to the xCloud comes when Google is struggling with its identical service, Google Stadia.

Google earlier this month announced that it was shutting down its in-house gaming division for Stadia. According to reports, Google developers were not happy with the decision. Interestingly Google Stadia VP and GM Phil Harrison had commended the staff for the “great progress” studio had made, just a week before the shutdown announcement.
