Microsoft Reveals India’s Most Popular Xbox Series X|S Titles, Game Pass Impact

The Xbox Series X and S have had seen strong sales in India of late in part due to no PS5 and PS4 restocks. However, it turns out that Xbox Game Pass has also played a role in Microsoft’s resurgence in India. Along with Microsoft stating that India is a priority market for the company’s Xbox plans, it also revealed to IGN India what the country’s gamers are playing on the Xbox Series X and S.

“We are really pleased to see our fans in India enjoying some of the biggest blockbuster games which are playable at their best on the new generation of Xbox consoles,” a spokesperson for the company says. “Some of the popular games include titles like Forza Horizon 4, FIFA 21, Cricket 19, Fortnite, Minecraft, and Gears 5.”

Interestingly, outside of Fortnite that’s free-to-play, every other title has been on Xbox Game Pass since the Xbox Series X|S launch. It made us wonder how Indian gamers use the service. Spoiler alert: it’s similar to the rest of the world in terms of adoption.

“Xbox Game Pass makes gaming more accessible across console and PC in India… We’ve seen members discovering and playing in the service–members play 40 percent more games than before and 30 percent more genres. Developers have continued to see success with Xbox Game Pass too, driving higher levels of engagement and new opportunities for our partners,” the company tells IGN India.

The last time Microsoft broke out India details regarding Xbox was during the Xbox One X launch in January 2018. This was six months after Xbox Game Pass launched.

At the time the company claimed that Forza Horizon 3, Forza 7 Motorsport, Assassin’s Creed Origins, and Shadow of War were India’s biggest games on Xbox. It’s an interesting contrast to the titles listed now, indicating that the selection of Xbox Game Pass games makes up a larger part of Indian gaming habits. And this is likely to increase what with Grand Theft Auto 5 re-entering Xbox Game Pass on April 8, 2021.

Earlier in the week, Microsoft exclusively revealed to IGN India that its Xbox Series X|S launch was the “most successful” in Microsoft’s history and that the country is a “key growth area” for Xbox.
