Microsoft has officially begun testing a new UI design for the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles, with a full launch of the redesign coming in 2023 for all users.
As reported by The Verge, select Xbox Insiders have been able to access the new home screen design during its testing phase. The new UI design is still in the early stages and is expected to be tweaked and adjusted in the coming months, ready for it to be rolled out to all users next year.
Ivy Krislov, the Senior Product Manager Lead of Xbox Experiences, told The Verge “we know the Xbox homepage is where our gamers spend the most time, and it’s a space that’s very personal”. Krislov went on to say, “We also know we can always be listening and learning how we can do better here while keeping your experience fast and familiar. With that, we’re kicking off a multi-month series of experiments to learn how to create a more personalized home screen experience and address some of the top trends and fan requests”.
Plenty of changes will likely be made by the time the redesign is fully released, as Microsoft will clearly be paying close attention to the feedback of the Xbox Insiders. As the new UI begins rolling out in the testing phase today, those lucky enough to experience the changes will notice that the changes are similar in style to the Xbox TV app. The new UI was showcased by The Verge, and can be seen in the image below.
Kirslov made it clear that the redesign will be focused largely from community feedback, telling The Verge, “We want to ensure this experience is the best it can be, and we know getting it right will take some time which is why we will be rolling it out slowly and iterating throughout the process”. The new Xbox UI will launch sometime in 2023 for the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
