Microsoft’s Xbox is about to have its most promising year

We are heading toward an entirely unique time in the history of Xbox, one that combines a variety of classic first party IPs with new ones acquired through massive studio purchases.

Why those dates? Well, Forza Horizon 5 is being released November 9, 2021. Bethesda’s Starfield is being released November 11, 2022. And if I had to guess, we’ll likely see Halo Infinite at the tail end of November 2021, even though it doesn’t have a firm date yet.

As such, I believe that if everything goes according to plan, this could be the most promising single year of Xbox ever, if we’re measuring from November 2021 to November 2022.

All of these are massive releases.

Halo: CE – November 2001

Forza Horizon 5 is a new entry in what these days, is Xbox’s most acclaimed first party IP. The game won best of E3 and a successful launch seems likely.
Halo Infinite has a lot to prove, but it’s a huge entry in a series full of huge entries, a platform to launch the entire future of the Halo brand this generation.
Starfield is a brand new Bethesda IP they want to sit alongside Fallout and Elder Scrolls, and now it’s all Microsoft’s, after the recent acquisition.
And all this in the span of one year? I honestly can’t think of any other single year in Xbox history quite like it. While there are many great games in the past, they’re pretty spread out from one another.

KOTOR 2 – December 2004 Fable – September 2005

Gears of War – November 2006 Halo 3 – September 2007

Fable 2- October 2008 Gears of War 2 – November 2008

Forza Horizon – October 2012 So, you see the trend, most of these are really spread out, with often no more than 2 falling in a year. And the ones that are close? We’re talking 13-17 years ago. There just hasn’t really been anything close, especially during the entire last Xbox One era, which notoriously featured a pretty heavy drought of big first party releases.

But fall 2021-2022? It’s one to watch, and we just have to hope the games all deliver.
