It was pretty much a year ago to the day when we first heard from Merge Games and Maple Powered Games in regards their farming action RPG with a twist. But since that time Monster Harvest has had its release delayed more times then you could imagine, pushed back time and time again as the development team honed the experience. But surely that means that the release today of Monster Harvest on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC should mean that it’s as good as it’s ever going to get?
Available to purchase and download right now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC through Steam, with it also playable on Xbox Series X|S, Monster Harvest is a pixelated farming simulator with a little bit of a twist. You see, not only do you need to prove yourself in the farming stakes, building up your own little plots and caring for your crops, but you’ll then get to take those mutated crops into battle.
The overall goal of Monster Harvest is to take down the evil SlimeCo, as it’s the land of Planimal Point which is being threatened by their ideas. In order to put one over on the corporation though, you’ll be found sending the crops you grow and mutate into battle, playing out via good old turn-based mechanics.
There are no less than 72 mutations to discover in all in Monster Harvest with these affected by the season at hand. You see, should you grow your crops with various weather effects taking place and you’ll be treated to some of the strangest mutations you will ever know.
Throughout your time here though you’ll also be found building out your farm, making it the best it can ever be. Crafting your own furniture and creating the most delicious jams are also on the cards. In fact, there’s a ton going on in Planimal Point, with all the following key features promised…
- Farm with mutants! Use magical slimes to mutate the crops you grow on your farm.
- Collectible Planimal companions! Some slimes mutate your crops into Planimals!
- Take your loyal companions into battle as you look to save Planimal Point from the Evil SlimeCo.
- Three unique seasons: Dry, Wet, and Dark – Strange weather and seasons shift what the player can grow.
- Venture into the town of Planimal Point – Discover the people and creatures that live there, build relationships to gain discounts in stores.
- Craft dozens of items for your farm and your house.
We’ll be sure to let you know if those delays to Monster Harvest have been for the best or not once we drop our full review of the game your way.
In the meantime you’ll be able to pick up a copy of the game for yourself by visiting the Xbox Store. It’s priced at £14.99.
