Mortal Kombat HD Dev Wants To Remake The OG Trilogy, But It Needs Your Support

If you’ve dreamed of a Mortal Kombat Trilogy Remake on Nintendo Switch, you might want to check out Eyeballistic’s petition.

This same team approached series co-creator Ed Boon back in 2016 with Mortal Kombat HD. While he was all for it, Warner Bros. (the Mortal Kombat IP owner) didn’t have quite as much faith in the project and supposedly wasn’t convinced the game would sell over 100,000 units worldwide.

Now that Eyeballistic has become a legitimate development group – securing and signing contracts to produce games for multiple platforms, it wants to give it another shot, so it’s put up a petition on Change.org. There’s even the above proof-of-concept to go with it (it looks amazing, by the way).

The petition has already exceeded 15,000 signatures and while there’s a target goal of 25,000 on the website – the team says it is seeking 100,000 supporters all up. There’s also a social media campaign promoting the hashtag #BBMKT – “bring back Mortal Kombat trilogy”.

Eyeballistic goes on to explain how it’s been enhancing its online rollback tech with some proprietary tech – to improve upon GGPO even further and smooth out play across great distances. To achieve this, it’ll use Epic’s online services, which will also allow the game to support cross-play, and gives it a chance to be welcomed by the FGC tournament scene.

Additionally, the developer will “painstakingly recreate every detail of every stage and character” in glorious 3D. This includes fatality, brutality, friendship, and animality. Characters and stages will also get a facelift to 4K on supported platforms and there’ll be 60 fps gameplay – with the intention to power the title with Unreal Engine 5. All of the music would get the remake treatment, too.

“Target platforms for release would be Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series, PS5 and PC. We anticipate the game would cost $39.99 and it would include everything the original MK Trilogy had plus the standard online match making and world wide leaderboards. If you want this remake to happen, please show your support by signing the petition. When we reach 100,000 supporters we’ll approach WB with a plan to use crowdfunding to further demonstrate that the game will sell like crazy!”
