MultiVersus teases the next addition to its roster in a video that certainly captures the vibes of the upcoming spooky season.
MultiVersus has teased the latest addition to its roster and it seems all but confirmed that Stripe from Gremlins will be joining the fight next week. The platform fighter has seen a lot of success since it launched in open beta this summer, and millions of players have picked up the free-to-play title from Player First Games. While the fighter has strong core mechanics and interesting features to set it apart from the likes of Super Smash Bros., a lot of what attracts players to MultiVersus is its wacky roster.
From Shaggy to Steven Universe, a MultiVersus player essentially lives out the childhood dream by picking two characters from random IPs and learning who would win in a fight. With a lot of Warner Bros. IPs to choose from, Player First Games has consistently been adding new fighters to MultiVersus alongside some big updates. Most recently, Rick finally made his way to MultiVersus after Morty had joined over a month prior.
Now, it seems that MultiVersus is gearing up for yet another character to join the roster. In a teaser posted to the game’s Twitter, some MultiVersus gameplay can be seen projected onto a wall. Shadows begin to dart in front of the screen, and it quickly appears that the POV character is surrounded by Gremlins. The tweet also mentions that next week will get “a bit chaotic,” implying that whatever change is coming will be on its way soon. Many fans have taken this to mean that Stripe will be joining MultiVersus, following his tease at the start of Season 1.
Stripe is the primary antagonist of the first Gremlins movie and basically acts as the evil antithesis to Gizmo, who is already playable in MultiVersus. Stripe’s addition was further teased in an earlier tweet where a GIF was posted of some Gremlins in their cuter stage. While no details have been given yet on how Stripe will play, he will likely have an entirely different type of gameplay from Gizmo, who focuses on long-range attacks and supporting his allies.
There’s still no mention of when Black Adam, the character who was confirmed alongside Stripe, will be joining MultiVersus, though many think that the superhero will be added close to when the new movie about him releases. It is likely that Stripe’s release will coincide with a new MultiVersus update as well, considering the pattern of recent character launches. Game Director Tony Huynh has also stated that the next updates to the game will be big, implying that there could be more to shift up the game beyond a new character.
MultiVersus is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
