National Indian Gaming Commission set to announce tribal casino revenues

The National Indian Gaming Commission will announce tribal casino revenues for fiscal year 2021 next week.

The announcement takes place on August 10, during the Oklahoma Indian Gaming Association’s Tradeshow and Conference in Tulsa, Oklahoma. NIGC Chair E. Sequoyah Simermeyer and Vice Chair Jeannie Hovland are set to participate.

The figures will show how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the Indian gaming industry. For most of 2020, tribes shut down their casinos, resulting in a dramatic decline in their revenues.

According to NIGC figures released a year ago, Indian gaming revenues fell by 19.5 percent amid the coronavirus pandemic. Revenues totaled $27.8 billion for fiscal year 2020, down from a record $34.6 billion.

Tribes have since restarted operations across Indian Country. In Oklahoma, for example, more than 130 facilities are offering 80,000 electronic gaming machines, according to OIGA.

OIGA’s Conference and Trade Show is being held at the Cox Business Convention Center in Tulsa. It runs from August 9-11.

The NIGC is the federal agency charged with overseeing tribal casinos.
