Nets reportedly add forward Johnson

Brooklyn is staying busy on Day 2 of free agency. The Nets have reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with veteran forward James Johnson, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

A rugged player known for his rebounding and defensive work, Johnson is a 12-year NBA veteran who spent 2020-21 with the Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans. He averaged 7.2 points and 3.5 rebounds per game and has mostly served as a reserve throughout his NBA career. In the past two days, the Nets have reportedly re-signed forward Blake Griffin and guard Bruce Brown.

Bucks add Hood in reported deal

The Milwaukee Bucks have reached a one-year deal with Rodney Hood, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, in a move that should help the defending NBA champions’ perimeter depth. Per Wojnarowski, the Bucks will sign Hood once he clears waivers from the Toronto Raptors.

Hood was traded from the Portland Trail Blazers to the Raptors at the trade deadline last season after coming back from a torn Achilles suffered in the 2019-20 season. He is known for his 3-point shooting (36.7% career) despite a down season in that department in 2020-21 (30.1%). After seeing P.J. Tucker reportedly head to Miami in free agency on Aug. 2, this addition of Hood helps the Bucks reload for the 2021-22 season.

Report: Nets, Brown agree to 1-year deal

The Brooklyn Nets are reportedly keeping versatile guard Bruce Brown in the fold as he will soon sign a one-year, qualifying offer, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Brown’s versatility is a valuable commodity for the Nets and he often guards the opponents’ best perimeter scorer while playing center on offense. Last season, Brown averaged 8.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game, but struggled from deep (28.8% on 3-pointers).

Bjelica, Warriors reportedly agree to 1-year deal

Swingman Nemanja Bjelica has reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with the Warriors, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. Anthony Slater of The Athletic reports it is a one-year minimum deal.

Bjelica split last season between the Sacramento Kings and Miami Heat, arriving in Miami via a trade deadline deal. He averaged 5.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 11 games for the Heat, but appeared in just two playoff games. Overall, he has appeared in 378 games, averaging 7.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.

Jazz, Gay reportedly agree to deal

Veteran guard Rudy Gay and the Utah Jazz have reportedly agreed to a deal, per multiple reports. He is reportedly signing a two-year deal that includes a player option. Gay spent the last four seasons with the San Antonio Spurs and averaged 11.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.

While the Jazz finished with the NBA’s best record in 2020-21, they lost in the Western Conference semifinals to the LA Clippers in large part because of a lack of perimeter depth. Gay will bring a reliable 3-point shot (38.1% last season) to the Jazz as well as some scoring punch that should help the bench.

Report: Raptors to sign Dekker

Former first-round pick Sam Dekker is headed back to the NBA after reportedly agreeing to a two-year deal with the Toronto Raptors, writes Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Dekker was the 18th overall pick in 2015 by the Houston Rockets and played for five teams (Houston, LA Clippers, Cleveland Cavaliers and Washington Wizards) in his 200 career NBA games. He averaged 5.5 points and 3.0 rebounds per game in the NBA and spent the last two seasons overseas.

Sixers set to reportedly waive Hill

Veteran point guard George Hill will reportedly be waived by the Philadelphia 76ers, per Shams Charania of The Athletic and Keith Pompey of Philly.com. Hill had a partial guarantee on his deal for next season.

Hill has been well traveled since being traded from the Indiana Pacers in 2017. Since then, he has played for seven teams and landed in Philadelphia last year via a trade deadline-day deal involving the 76ers, New York Knicks and Oklahoma City Thunder. Overall, he averaged 8.7 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 30 games played last season.
