Need for Speed Unbound, with its vivid urban style, is looking like the best entry in EA’s arcade racing series for some time – and as the window gets wound down on the release’s 2nd December launch, the details are just getting better. Namely, an exclusive IGN interview confirms you can expect 4K, 60 frames-per-second presentation on PS5 – but that’s not all.
Like most major games these days, the title will feature full crossplay across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, meaning you can play with your friends regardless of format. And if you’re more of a single player person, there’ll be a full offline campaign, with a narrative that sees you attempting to reclaim a priceless car from an ultimate street race.
One unique element that the title will introduce is a buy-in mechanic, which means you’ll constantly be gambling your in-game currency as you enter races, adding stakes to the outcome. There’ll be free updates post-launch adding more content to complete, and a set of side-quests starring American rapper A$AP Rocky will see you attempting to take control of fictional sandbox Lakeshore.
When you do go online, you’ll be able to cruise around the open world with friends, and setup various events and activities on the fly. While the publisher has stopped short of sharing anything specific, it does sound like it has live service ambitions here, with developer Criterion alluding to launch day being just the beginning of the lifecycle for the game.
