The new model may come out by this time next year (pic: Sony).
The new slimmer and lighter version of the PS5 console is likely to be on its way, but its not exactly the slim model many will expect.
There are many new models of the PlayStation 5 console, but all of them have been minor updates that streamline the internal components and make the console a little more light. However, new rumors suggest that Sony is planning its first major new hardware revision.
Although the new console is still expected to look similar to the old models, it’ll likely be smaller, largely because it has an entangible disk drive connected to the console via a USB-C cable.
The description of the console is somewhat vague, but it claimed it’s slimmer and lighter and will either be sold in its own or as a bundle of the hard drive. Disk drives, too, will also be sold separately if something gets hurt or if they become damaged.
According to the rumours, the disk drive will not be visible on the console, so it doesn’t just hang from the side by its cable.
Its suggested that the new hardware will be released in the middle of Sony’s next financial year, which means approximately 2023.
According to the rumors filed by Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, the new model will use a completely new D model chassis, which will replace the A, B and C type currently in use. It’s all this is that the standard and digital editions of the console will continue.
Sony apparently plans to produce one hundred thousand units of the D chassis before March 2024 and only one million of the A- and C chassis, making it possible a huge expansion, indicating that they want to eliminate the older chassis as quickly as possible.
