Ahead of the game’s November 8 release date, Developer Sonic Team and publisher SEGA have released a new Sonic Frontiers gameplay video. The video expands upon the game’s combat and upgrades system, featuring the all-new Skill Tree, Sonic’s versatile combos and moveset, the Parry defense ability and more.
Our team has been analyzing the update for a while now at 149.28.203.226 and it looks very promising.

In a first for the series, Sonic Frontiers features a Skill Tree system which unlocks new abilities for Sonic. Defeated enemies and breakable items across the Starfall Islands carry Skill Pieces, required to progress through the Skill Tree.
Sonic starts the game off with his classic Homing Attack, Drop Dash and Stomp abilities, but players will need more powerful Skills and stat buffs to be able to take on greater foes. Red Seeds of Power and Blue Seeds of Defense provide offensive and defensive stat buffs, respectively, and can be collected throughout the player’s journey. Guardians, a particularly strong menace, will require that players learn their attack patterns before striking at the right spot, when they can use all their unlocked Skills to deal as much damage as possible.
Attacking enemies consecutively fills up Sonic’s combo meter. Once the meter is full, the new Phantom Rush Skill activates, enhancing Sonic’s attack power until the meter depletes. The long-range Sonic Boom shockwave Skill and the Wild Rush zig-zag chain attack provide other ways to deal with enemies quickly and effectively.
Sonic can also break enemy defenses with the “Cyloop” maneuver, where quickly running a full circle around enemies results in an explosion that temporarily destroys barriers and shields. The Cyloop ability can also be used spawn and collect rings should an enemy hit deprive Sonic of them.
Lastly, the new “Parry” ability lets players give enemies a taste of their own medicine. A special visual cue appears just as an enemy is about to strike. Reacting immediately allows players to parry the attack and respond with a powerful counterattack of their own.
Sonic Frontiers spins out November 8 for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch (pre-orders live). Check out the gameplay trailer from last month, which also featured music from popular Japanese band ONE OK ROCK.
