New year, same goal for NFL teams.
While some have already booked their playoff spots and others have been eliminated from postseason contention, there are still several berths up for grabs as the league heads into its penultimate week of the regular season. This is especially true in the AFC, where only ther Kansas City Chiefs have assured themselves of playing past Week 18.
The Chiefs can do the Baltimore Ravens a big favour on Sunday when they host the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals lead the AFC North, but a defeat to the Chiefs could open a window for the Ravens to usurp the top spot in the division.
Meanwhile, the AFC South-leading Tennessee Titans are on the verge of confirming their spot in the playoffs, and this week they take on fellow AFC hopefuls in the Miami Dolphins. A loss by the Dolphins would throw their season into serious doubt as they are just inside the playoff picture with a number of teams hot on their heels.
Similarly, the Buffalo Bills, Indianapolis Colts and New England Patriots also find themselves in playoff position heading into the weekend, and all will look to cement their participation in the postseason with victories.
