The list of rescheduled games continues to grow for the NHL.
The league announced on Friday evening that another nine games have been postponed as a result of recent attendance restrictions put in place by local Canadian governments in response to surging COVID-19 case numbers.
On Thursday, the Ontario government limited attendance capacity to 1,000 spectators at all sporting events, while the Manitoba government reduced theirs to 250, and Quebec outlawed fans altogether.
British Columbia and Alberta are operating with 50 percent capacity caps of their own.
The games that will be in need of new dates are as follows: Minnesota Wild @ Ottawa Senators on Jan. 3, New York Islanders @ Vancouver Canucks on Jan. 5, New York Islanders @ Edmonton Oilers on Jan. 8, New York Islanders @ Calgary Flames on Jan. 11, Minnesota Wild @ Edmonton Oilers on Jan. 12, Vegas Golden Knights @ Edmonton Oilers on Jan. 14, Vegas Golden Knights @ Calgary Flames on Jan. 15, and Edmonton Oilers @ Winnipeg Jets on Jan. 16.
This brings the total number of games the NHL has been forced to postpone due to the COVID-19 virus this season to 90, the bulk of which will be slotted in during the three-week period the league was going to use as an Olympic break prior to withdrawing participation.
Needless to say, composing the NHL schedule is not an enviable job right now.
