GPES observed Wiebe for wearing his helmet correctly while riding his bike. The officer observed him, stopped, and spoke with him about the behaviours that stood out. Wiebe was then rewarded with a Positive Ticket.
“The City expresses gratitude to Dalien for modelling correct helmet use while biking and for encouraging positivity, responsibility, and safety in our community,” reads the Oct. 3 news release.
The program itself is one meant to promote the development of citizenship, good deeds and safe and healthy choices. GPES officers watched for opportunities to engage with children and youth they saw utilizing and promoting those ideals. When the occasions presented themselves, officers engaged with the city’s youth to further promote those positive qualities and behaviours.
Conducted from June through to August, when a ticket was issued, the identified citizen could then bring the ticket to City on 99th GPES office and redeem it for a small bag of City of GP swag and prizes.
