Nintendo Switch just hit several impressive sales milestones. Nintendo’s hybrid console has been selling like hotcakes for years, and that continued in 2021, despite availability issues. The latest investor report shows that Nintendo Switch sales have eclipsed 100 million, sitting at a grand total of 103.94 million. That’s up from 92.87 million three months ago, meaning Switch sold 11.07 million units over the holiday season. It’s also enough to pass Wii, which is a massive turnaround from the struggles of Wii U.
Nintendo Switch sales pass 100 million, Wii
Despite passing up 100 million sales and beating out Wii, Nintendo Switch is not Nintendo’s highest-selling device yet. That honor belongs to the DS family, which sold over 150 million units. Nintendo also counts Game Boy and Game Boy Color as a single product with over 118 million sales. Here’s the full breakdown of sales by console, both home and handheld.
- Nintendo Switch — 103.94 million
- Nintendo 3DS — 75.94 million
- Nintendo Wii U — 13.56 million
- Nintendo Wii — 101.63 million
- Nintendo DS — 154.02 million
- Game Boy Advance — 81.51 million
- Game Boy — 118.69 million
- Nintendo GameCube — 21.74 million
- Nintendo 64 — 32.93 million
- Super Nintendo — 49.10 million
- Nintendo Entertainment System — 61.91 million
Nintendo Switch is still going strong, and its 2021 sales would have been higher if not for the parts shortage. If Nintendo continues to support it with quality games for a few more years, it could realistically take the top spot. And, of course, they could always launch a more powerful model to boost sales even higher.
