With Team Ninja’s samurai soulslike Nioh coming to PlayStation 4 in 2017, followed by a sequel, fittingly titled Nioh 2, in 2020, you might have hoped that one day the series might crawl its way to Xbox. But, according to Director Fumihiko Yasuda, that’s unlikely to happen anytime soon, or ever, for that matter.
“There’s nothing really to note about that,” Yasuda remarked upon being asked by VGC about the possibility of Nioh hitting Xbox. “Currently, there’s not really too much of a possibility of having Nioh on Xbox platforms, but we do hope Xbox fans enjoy Wo Long and look forward to that game coming out. That’s probably all we can say on that at the moment.”
This seems somewhat unusual, given that Xbox has clearly forged a relationship of sorts with Team Ninja to bring Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty to Xbox Game Pass on day one, but, then, it could be that the Japanese studio currently has enough on its plate. Nioh coming to Xbox might not be a complete impossibility, but clearly, it’s not about to happen in the near future, which is a shame – they’re both very good games.
Still, if it’s Team Ninja action you crave, then Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty might scratch that itch when it hits Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation, and PC in early 2023. If you were hoping to sample the game, however, you’re out of luck, as the limited-time demo expired earlier this week. Damn.
