Most people who purchase video games understand that waiting a while to buy the latest triple-A video game is usually a good idea. Aside from some instances where a game surges in value due to its rarity, most titles tend to become cheaper or go on sale long after they’ve been released.
NIS America is raising prices on select titles from its back catalog after the current sales on its games end. The new pricing will go into effect on July 19th and will impact games like Disgaea PC, Phantom Brave, The 25th Ward: The Silver Case, and Criminal Girls: Invite Only.
Unless that game happens to be published by NIS America. In an incredibly odd yet bold move, the company behind the Disgaea franchise is apparently increasing the prices on many of their games. That’s some bad news for anyone looking to buy The Caligula Overdose anytime soon.
This is a bizarre decision. Raising a game’s price will certainly get you more money when it’s bought, but it will also decrease the number of people willing to buy. Game developers and publishers tend to reduce the cost of their games as it’s a good way to entice customers to buy older titles. Doing the opposite seems like a good way to ensure no one ever wants to play Labyrinth Of Refrain: Coven Of Dusk (man some of these games got some silly names.)
If you looking to play Disgaea PC or any of the other titles that are about to go up in price there’s still time to buy them cheap. They’re on sale across quite a few different digital storefronts. So snatch them up now before it costs you an arm and a leg to play htol#NiQ: The Firefly Diary.
Of course, there are other companies who have successfully resisted the urge to lower their prices. Nintendo’s games rarely go down in price. Even when they re-release games – such as the upcoming Switch port of The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword – they usually cost the same as brand new releases. However, Nintendo has plenty of popular intellectual properties such as Mario and Pokemon, so it can seemingly get away with its outrageous pricing. NIS America on the other hand has Disgaea and…That’s pretty much it.
