PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman Guillaume Richard recorded three points, Brett Berard tallied two goals and 13 players registered a point as No. 12/14 Providence College men’s hockey down Army West Point, 7-0, at Schneider Arena on Saturday (Oct. 2). The Friars welcomed back fans to the arena for the first time since Feb. 29, 2020, a span of 581 days.

-Providence scored right out of the gate with a goal by Patrick Moynihan only 55 seconds into play. Moynihan re-directed a one-timer from Uula Ruikka (Oulu, Finland). Kohen Olischefski (Abbotsford, B.C.) picked up his first-career point with the Friars on the assist.
-The Friars doubled their lead 6:10 into the first on a goal by Parker Ford (Wakefield, R.I.). The goal was Ford’s first of the season and 17th of his career. Ford was assisted by Nick Poisson (Vancouver, B.C.) and Guillaume Richard (Cap-Sante, Quebec).
-Army West Point took a penalty at 16:21 as Andrew Quetell was whistled for tripping. Providence was on the power play for 1:18 before Ben Mirageas (Newburyport, Mass.) was called for boarding. The teams played 4-on-4 for the remaining 42 seconds before West Point went to the power play. Neither team was able to capitalize on the man-up opportunity.
-At the conclusion of the first period the Friars led 11-8 in shots.
-The Friars’ increased the lead to 3-0 with a goal from Callahan just 2:55 into the second period.
Poisson and Cody Monds (Brockville, Ontario) earned the assists on the play. The goal served as Callahan’s first of the season and 11th career goal.
-The scoring continued in the second at 13:09 as Brett Berard (East Greenwich, R.I.) earned his first goal of the season, putting the Friars up 4-0. Craig Needham (Medford, Mass.) and Callahan assisted, with Callahan putting up his second point of the night.
– Providence closed out the game with a three-goal third period. Richard netted his first NCAA goal after slamming home Parker Ford’s rebound. Berard notched his second strike of the night midway through the third period, while Craig Needham finished off the scoring with a power-play marker at the 13:00 mark. Freshman Riley Duran (Woburn, Mass.) earned his first collegiate point on the goal.
– Jaxson Stauber (Plymouth, Minn.) turned away all 24 shots he faced before giving way to senior Jimmy Scannell (Medway, Mass.), who made one stop.
– Providence also began the 2019-20 season with a 7-0 shutout victory and have now extended their unbeaten streak against Army to 14 games (13-0-1) dating back to 1969.
