AMHERST, Mass. – Jaxson Stauber made 25 saves but Scott Morrow’s goal 6:25 into the third period proved to be the difference as No. 12 UMass downed the No. 7/8 Providence College men’s hockey team, 1-0, on Friday night at the Mullins Center.

– The Friars struggled offensively through the opening 20 minutes, generating only two shots on goal to the Minutemen’s nine.
– The teams also battled through a scoreless second period. Providence was able to get things going offensively with 12 shots on goal.
– Stauber stood tall, denying several good bids by UMass in the second period.
– UMass’ Scott Morrow broke the deadlock at 6:25 of the third period as he finished off a centering pass in the slot.
– The Friars had several glorious chances in the final minutes, including a 3-on-1 opportunity with under a minute to play.
– Providence’s winless streak at the Mullins Center was extended to seven games (0-6-1).
